Kefta (kofta)

I am in love with this recipe! I dip the kefta in homemade Mutable (Eggplant Dip) – Farha

Ziyad Kefta spices

Ingredients of Kefta

  • 1/2 pound ground beef

  • 1/2 pound ground lamb

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

  • 1 teaspoon Kefta spices from Ziyad brand

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground sumac

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tomota and green bell pepper (optional)

Directions of Kefta:

  1. Begin by chopping the onions, garlic, and parsley finely in a food processor.

  2. To the food processor, add the ground beef, ground lamb, squeezed dry bread, and the mix of spices (Kefta spice, cardamom, sumac, nutmeg). Run the food processor until everything is thoroughly combined, scraping the sides as needed.

  3. Transfer the meat mixture from the food processor into a large pan.

  4. Spread the meat mixture and mold it onto the pan shape. Ensure that each kefta kebab is about 1 inch in thickness for ideal cooking.

  5. Slice the tomato and green bell pepper into slices and spread them on the top as desired.

  6. Preheat the oven till 350 degrees. Insert the tray of kefta in the oven and leave it for about 15 minutes. Once the kefta kebabs are cooked to your desired level of doneness and have a nice char on the outside, remove them from the oven.

Serve the kefta hot with pita bread, tahini sauce, or your favorite Middle Eastern condiments. Enjoy these delicious and flavorful kefta kebabs!
